Sam Hunt Explains Why He Didn’t Attend ACM Awards

Sam Hunt was miles away when his named was called as the ACM Single Record of the Year winner on Sunday night in Las Vegas.

It was the “Body Like a Back Road” singer’s first ACM Award win, and when Dustin Lynch and Nancy O’Dell announced the honor, they both looked confused and flustered as nobody approached the stage. Hunt was not in the building, as he had other plans.

“I was celebrating the marriage of my long time friend and tour manager John Worthington,” the superstar writes on Instagram, also thanking the Academy of Country Music (ACM) for the award.

“See y’all next year!”

The last line should give fans some hope that he’ll be releasing new music that will qualify him for an award in 2019, though no firm plans for a new single or album have been announced. “Body Like a Back Road” was released more than a year ago, and aside from his headlining 15 in a 30 Tour, Hunt has kept a low profile since getting married last April. In fact, Sunday (April 15) was his one-year wedding anniversary, as well.

Monday’s social media post draws attention to the fact that Hunt has deleted all but nine images and videos from his Instagram wall in recent days. The reason for the change is not clear, and what’s remaining is content posted after Christmas 2017.

In June, Hunt will headline the 2018 Taste of Country Music Festival.
