Veterans Day is a time for us to remember the servicemen and servicewomen who have served our country. Several Kalamazoo area restaurants are saying thank you with free meals. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War. Now known as Veterans Day, we honor those who serve and have served our country. Local restaurants are offering meals for these men and women. Here are a few listed on MLIVE.

Free lunch at Texas Roadhouse

The Texas Roadhouse, 7039 S. Westnedge Ave. in Portage, is offering free lunch to any active, retired or former U.S. military personnel. They can choose one of 10 entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin steak and two sides, plus a non-alcoholic beverage. The deal will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11. Free stir fry meal at BD's Mongolian Grill

Veterans and active duty military personnel will receive a free meal at BD's Mongolian Grill at 5311 S. Westnedge Ave. in Portage. A military ID or proof of service will be needed for the complimentary offer. For more information, call 269-343-3600.

Denny's offers free Grand Slams

Veterans can receive a free Grand Slam as part of the restaurant's celebration of Veteran's Day. The location at 3817 Cork St. in Kalamazoo will offer the deal from 5 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Nov. 11. For more information, call 269-342-4633.

Applebee's has special menu

The two local Applebee's locations will be offering free meals for veterans and active duty military all day on Tuesday. The restaurants, 5330 W. Main St. and 6675 S. Westnedge Ave., in Portage, have a Veterans Day menu featuring several options, including a burger, shrimp plate, seven-ounce sirloin steak, and more.
