The Tigers came from behind to beat the Royals 6-5 Wednesday night and take the series from Kansas City.

Matthew Boyd struggled on the mound for a third straight start, as the Royals scored three in the first.   Boyd settled down, but was taken out of the game after working just 3 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits.  Ian Saupold took over and shut out the Royals over the next three.

Victor Martinez put Detroit on the board in the 2nd with a homer to right-field, making it a 3-1 game.

The Tiger’s bats heated-up in the 3rd inning with J.D. Martinez hitting a double to deep right field, bringing Andrew Romine and Miguel Cabrera home. Justin Upton then doubled to center, bringing in Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.

Alex Avila hit a homer in the fourth, giving the Tigers a 6-1 lead.    That proved to be the winning run.

The Tigers have an off day on Thursday and will face the Chicago White Sox at home, Friday evening. Coverage begins at 6:45 PM on 95.3 WBCK.
