A portion of the historic Territorial Road, one of the first roads to cross the entire state, caved in after a culvert collapse following the winter of 2015. As the Berrien County Road Commission works on road repairs, they provided a look at how the road looks during construction.

The failure in the road happened on the culvert that carries Blue Creek under Territorial just ouside the hamlet of Millburg. The road has been closed since April 2016.

According to the update shared by the BTRC on Facebook,

Progress being made on the Territorial Road culvert. The creek is flowing again (middle of photo, below concrete pieces) now that we have excavated the former road bed down deep enough. The DEQ is requiring a 12 foot by 7 foot, concrete box culvert be installed. The scale of the project can be seen by noting the two workers and excavator on the left side of the photo!

The road is expected to re-open to traffic sometime during the summer of 2016.
