The Mesabi Miner freighter ship was cruising on Lake Michigan the other day and a mate who was in the pilot house when a storm rolled in caught an amazing picture of a lightning strike over the lake.

The picture was taken by mate Jack Brandenburg from the 1,004-foot Mesabi Miner freighter ship which was traveling down-bound on Lake Michigan.

The power of nature is amazing, beautiful and scary.

The lightening strike shown above happened just a week after a weather system brought a drastic 30 degree temperature dip to the lake.

Lake Michigan Lightning Videos

This was captured off the shore of Lake Michigan at St Joseph.

This video is from 2010 and shows someone standing in the churning waters (is that safe?!) of the lake as lightening strikes around him. He udders a whoa that makes the storm feel a little too close for comfort.
