The lilacs on Michigan's Mackinac Island are over 200 years old, making them the oldest in the country. The 75th annual Lilac Festival takes place June 9-18, 2023.
Recently Mackinac Island residents were the ones to get the best out of everyone with an April Fools’ Day joke that they played, saying that an anchor for the island broke away from a steel cable connected the lake bedrock, which holds the island in place, causing the island to move 6 feet.
They’ve done a great job maintaining that history, plus it’s one of the few places where you get around strictly by horse. It’s truly a fun visit and you can watch the horses below as they are carded onto the island.
A Consulting Engineer from New York City Charles Fowler was in charge of constructing a plan which would start in Cheboygan, and have a series of causeways and bridges connect to Bois Blanc Island, which would connect to Round Island, then into Mackinac Island, then connect to St. Ignace.
