Lake Saint Clair may not compare to the size of any of the other Great Lakes. Yet there is a movement to make it the sixth great lake.

As you can see from the photo, the major shipping lane from Wisconsin to the Atlantic passes through Lake Saint Clair so it is a pretty important link in our ability to move goods. It also sends fresh water into the Detroit River providing 40% of Michigans population with fresh drinking water making it a very important lake for the East side of the state.

There have also been petitions going back to 2002 trying to make it the sixth great lake.

Some would even say there are only four Great Lakes right now, so that would make this the fifth.

Do you think Lake Saint Clair should be one of the Great Lakes?
