Parchment Marching Band Performs At Walt Disney World
Band members from Parchment High School escaped Michigan’s lingering winter weather and traveled to a very warm and sunny Florida earlier this week for spring break. The band is spending the week at Walt Disney World to perform and explore the theme park. On Thursday morning, the band marched along Main Street, U.S.A. and performed music for all the park goers.
On Wednesday, the band members participated in a workshop with a Disney music conductor to learn how music is recorded for movie soundtracks. This is an area of Disney World that very few people get to see on the typical vacation there.
The 2017-18 school year has been a very successful one for the Parchment Marching band. In September, they took 1st place at the 2017 Otsego Band Invitational in Class C with a score of 81.1! A month later, the band participated in the 2017 Hastings Marching Band Invitational and again earned 1st place honors with a score of 83.
Parchment Band Director Matt Matuszek was hired permanently last fall after stepping in shortly before the school season began. Despite the short amount of time to get to know each other, the new director and students won the two consecutive 1st Place titles.
The school has made the trip to Florida every four years dating back to 1998, when yours truly went to Disney World with the Parchment Marching band for the first time. It was my senior year and was the experience of a lifetime. Just as we did, the 2017-18 band is sure to represent Parchment, the Kalamazoo area and Michigan well on their trip and we wish them save travels.
By the way, in one of their Facebook posts they mentioned it was “sunny and 88 degrees in Orlando.” Could you do us a favor and bring some of that back home with you?
