One Battle Creek movie theater is re-opening Friday, and another one hopes to re-open soon.

NCG Cinemas has renovated the theater at Lakeview Square mall, and Moore Theaters is putting the finishing touches on JC Cinema, the former Cheap Flicks on Helmer Road.

Crews are repaving the massive, long-crumbling, parking lot this week.   Carol Moore bought the theater for $220,000 with her late partner, Joe Chabot, about 16 months ago.    Chabot passed away last August.

Moore says they’re working toward the goal to open in mid-May.   She says after parking lot is finished next week, it has to set for another three or four days.  The next step will be to install the new digital projectors, and then finish with final inspections by the city and county.   Moore says the city of Battle Creek has been working well with them so far to get inspections done.

Moore says she likes the movie business.    She says it’s a nice escape for patrons, and a chance to have a good time for a couple of hours.

Moore says the theater will have seven screens, and new rocker seating from Irwin Seating in Grand Rapids.    She says they decided to name the theater “JC Cinema” in honor of Joe Chabot.

The theater on Helmer Road was built in 1978, and hasn’t seen any remodeling in more than a quarter century, until now.

Moore Theaters also operates M-89 Cinema in Otsego, Loma Theatre in Coloma, Michigan Theatre in South Haven and Wonderland Cinema in Niles.
