According to the website of the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region, in Battle Creek there will be several community lunches, dinners and gatherings; at noon, the Day of Service Luncheon takes place at the Washington Heights United Methodist Church, and an MLK Community Breakfast starts at 9am at the First Congregational Church.

At 5pm, God’s Kitchen will be hosting a Soul Food Dinner at the Battle Creek Masonic Lodge.

An MLK Community Celebration takes place at 5pm at the Bronson Battle Creek Outpatient Atrium, and a similar event also happens at 5 at the Kalamazoo State Theatre.

At noon, several community leaders will give their “State of the African American Community Address” at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Battle Creek. Lester Johnson, Kyra Wallace, and J.R. Reynolds spoke with 95.3 WBCK last week, in advance of the address; see the video below.
