Miranda Lambert took it old school at the 2017 CMA Awards with her performance of "To Learn Her," a classic country style tune from her 2016 double album The Weight of These Wings.

The artist kept it simple with the performance, standing behind a vintage mic and singing from the heart in a slinky, similarly-vintage fringed black dress and forties-inspired hair. An elegant chandelier sparkled above her, and the set gave a look of an old hotel or living room with weathered walls and worn wooden floors, suiting the song’s tone perfectly.

The tune is a straightforward, as-country-as-it-gets song cowritten by buddy and fellow songwriter Ashley Monroe, lamenting — but also celebrating — the difficulty of loving a complex woman. “To Learn Her” appears on the second set of songs from The Weight of These Wings dubbed The Heart.

Lambert was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year (“Tin Man”), Single of the Year (“Tin Man”), and Music Video of the Year (“Vice”) at the Nov. 8 CMAs.
