Maren Morris Shuts Down Blogger With ‘Humility’ Tweet

A country music blogger’s suggestion that Maren Morris hasn’t shown enough humility to be a star caught the singer’s attention. Her response was decisive.

Morris tweeted a sharply-worded comeback to “Trigger,” the author of a piece at Saving Country Music that dissects “The Middle” — her pop collaboration with Zedd — and then gets personal. During the final few paragraphs of a lengthy essay on the quality of the song and the overall state of country music (his go-to topic), “Trigger” (real name Kyle Coroneos) accuses Morris of acting like she’s “hot s–t.” Among other things, he says she shows no humility or dignity and that’s it too early in her career for her to be pivoting to pop music.

A series of social media posts from former UMG executive/journalist/college professor Beverly Keel and Rolling Stone Country writer Marissa R. Moss caught Morris’ eye, prompting her unbiased and unapologetic reply:

Morris has proven to be an assassin on Twitter before. In November she took down someone who asked if she’d had a “boob job.”

“Not that it would be any of your business, but I didn’t,” she writes. “But guess what? You just won a meet & greet of your choice so you can come and say that to my face!”

In the comments section of Tuesday morning’s tweet, Morris shares that she’s working on her next album and that it is a country album. The collaboration with Zedd is not her first non-country collaboration, and this summer she’ll be touring with Niall Horan. In fact, they released a song called “Seeing Blind” together last year and performed it at the 2017 CMA Awards — a country music awards show.

The Texan’s current single is “Rich.” “I Could Use a Love Song” recently became her first No. 1 song.
