JCPenney will be closing around 140 stores in total nationwide, citing a bad retail market. Other stores in Michigan getting closed include those in Holland and Midland as well as Houghton, Escanaba, Kingsford and Sault Ste Marie in the Upper Peninsula.

This announcement comes just couple of months after Macy's said that they would be closing their Lakeview Square Mall location.

This problem brick and mortar stores and malls are facing is not exclusive to Battle Creek, however; The Detroit Free Press says that the Fairlane Town Center Mall in Dearborn, one of the largest in Michigan, has resorted to renting out office space to Ford Motor Co.

Now, the Lakeview Square Mall only has one anchor store remaining in Sears.
