Is This the Last Payphone in Kalamazoo?

I recently watched "Jurassic World" and last weekend, I saw an artifact of an ancient era: a payphone.

There it was, an anachronistic sentry guarding the vacant lot on West Main next to the Glass Onion, across from the Tobacco Shoppe in Kalamazoo.

I can't remember the last time I saw a payphone.

These things used to be on corners everywhere, in convenience store parking lots, sometimes in the stores themselves and, of course, at shopping centers like West Main Mall.

Skilled drivers could get close enough to stay in the car and roll the window almost all the way up on that metal cord so you wouldn't get wet in the rain. If you had a pocketful of change (and you knew the number) you could call anywhere. 

Of course the personal cell phone has caused the payphone to become near extinct.
