It is dangerous and illegal to open a fire hydrant on your own but the City of Kalamazoo just may come do it for you to help you cool off.

As temperatures climb into the 90s, Kalamazoo residents have been opening up fire hydrants to cool off. Not only is this illegal, unauthorized use could cause several problems including injury, disrupting traffic, and damaging underground water pipes. When it gets this hot, the City of Kalamazoo actually does open some fireplugs for relief and you can request they come to your neighborhood.

So if you can't get to the lake, the pool or the beach, call the city and they just might come to your corner, but please, do not try this on your own.
