“Local Boy Does Good” would be a trite way to headline Jordan Klepper’s latest accomplishment, but it’s true. USA Today says Klepper has been named the host of a new version of Comedy Central’s Nightly Show.

This is the show that helped launch Stephen Colbert’s career enough to replace David Letterman. Klepper takes over this fall after the network dropped Larry Wilmore as host.

“The choice to entrust me with the 11:30 p.m. timeslot is both incredibly humbling and deeply disturbing,” Klepper declared in a statement. “Without a doubt, it has utterly destroyed my confidence in Comedy Central’s decision-making acumen. Dear God, now I have to work with these fools.” -USA Today

Reading Klepper’s bio, he’s more Kalamazoo than just about anybody who’s made it big from here, except for maybe Greg Jennings.

Klepper grew up here, went to Kalamazoo Central and KAMSC. He was also on the national champion Mock Trial team at KC. He graduated from Kalamazoo College. Mom, Betse, is on staff at Loy Norrix. Dad, Mark, roomed with Tim Allen at WMU.

All this means nothing if you’re not talented yourself.

After K-College, Klepper moved to Chicago and joined Second City, worked as a comedian for Big Ten Network (save the smart remarks), and then to New York to be a part of the Upright Citizen’s Brigade.

He’s been a part of the Daily Show team since 2014, and filled in for Wilmore last year. Now he gets his shot.
