A Battle Creek man will be facing a driving under the influence charge after he allegedly crashed a golf cart.

The Battle Creek Enquirer says that just before 9pm Tuesday, Battle Creek Police Officers found a man pinned under a golf cart that turned onto its side at the Battle Creek Country Club. The 54-year-old told police that he had been attempting to drive to his home a short distance away when the cart hit a curb and tipped over; the man did admit that he had 1 1/2 mixed drinks about 45 minutes before the accident.

He was taken to Bronson Battle Creek to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, and police are now seeking a drunken driving warrant against him.

Michigan's Operating While Intoxicated section of the Vehicle Code makes it a crime to operate a "motor vehicle" while "upon a highway or other place open to the general public or generally accessible to motor vehicles" while under the influence of alcohol; according to section 257.33 of the Vehicle Code, a "motor vehicle" is defined as "every vehicle that is self-propelled", which would apply to a golf cart.
