Bobby Guy Conquers the North Country Trail Run
I earned a medal nearly as big as my head!
As I'm always looking for new challenges, this year I decided to run an off-road half-marathon.
The North Country Trail Run is held at The Big M, a mountain biking/cross-country ski area near Wellston, Michigan. I am familiar with the area and have biked there a number of times while up North for an annual kayak and golf trip. I knew it would be a tough course and I had to train hard.
The thing is...I didn't.
Around the time of Cow Jam and Ribfest, I got busy enjoying myself and going to shows and didn't stick to my training schedule very well. I showed up Saturday morning not expecting anything, ignored my watch yet finished third in my age group.
Add that to a round of golf at Caberfae Peaks and kayaking the Pine River, it was an incredible weekend!
The North Country Run is one of the best organized races I have ever run and I am already signed up for 2016. This time for double the distance and my first trail run marathon.
After that...the 50-miler awaits.
