This year, the City Commission approved allowing medical marijuana facilities to open up within city limits consistent with state law, and the City Clerk announced Thursday that they are awaiting those businesses. The application period runs from June 7 to June 28, and no applications will be accepted outside of that time.
Battle Creek Man Facing OWI Charge For Golf Cart Crash
Just before 9pm Tuesday, Battle Creek Police Officers found a man pinned under a golf cart that turned onto its side at the Battle Creek Country Club. The 54-year-old told police that he had been attempting to drive to his home a short distance away.
Michigan Bill Would Allow Veterans To Get A CPL For Free
House Bill 5987, introduced Tuesday, would let veterans of the US Armed Force, Armed Forces Reserve, or Michigan National Guard apply for a concealed carry permit for free, waiving the $100 fee everyone else has to pay. Veterans could also avoid the $115 fee associated with renewing the permit.
Upton Lobbies Sec. of Defense For Battle Creek To Host Missile Defense
Representative Fred Upton from St. Joseph announced he had sent a letter to Secretary of Defense James Mattis, urging the selection of the Fort Custer Training Center as the site of the potential Continental Interceptor Site. In the letter, Upton says Battle Creek is ideal because of its strategic location, and the ease with which Fort Custer could see the system installed.

MDHHS Says ‘Do Not Eat’ Fish From Parts Of Kalamazoo River
The 2018 regional Eat Safe Fish Guides were released May 1 by the MDHHS. The guide says that from the Morrow Dam in Kalamazoo County to the Allegan Dam in Allegan County, every fish caught in the Kalamazoo River is listed as "Do Not Eat" due to PCBs in the fish. According to the MDHHS, eating even one meal of Bluegill, Carp, Rock Bass or any other fish from parts of the Kalamazoo River could result in health problems.

BCU says in a release Tuesday that Restore (269) worked together with them on a plan to renovate the building at 15 Carlyle St, which faces the Battle Creek River. As a result of the plan, the building has now been awarded to Restore (269), and they plan on turning it into a mixed-use facility known as The Record Box.
Details Released In Emmett Township Walmart Stabbing [EXCLUSIVE]
One of the victims, 36-year-old Jason Brown, tells 95.3 WBCK his side of the story, saying he and his 17-year-old son were stabbed by a man after a confrontation. Detective Graves also characterized other media reports that the stabbing was over a parking spot or a woman as inaccurate, saying he had "no clue" where that story originated.
