UPDATE: Person Hurt In ‘Isolated’ Shooting That Closed Three Springfield Schools
UPDATE at 7:50am: The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that around 4:30am Thursday, a gunshot victim was found at a gas station on Dickman Rd; it was later learned the victim had been shot in the area of Avenue A and Sundown St.
The Sheriff’s Office says this is an isolated incident, but they aren’t saying what the person’s condition is, or if a suspect is in custody. 95.3 WBCK is receiving reports from area school officials that the Battle Creek Police Department has a suspect in custody, but law enforcement hasn't confirmed this.
At least three schools in Springfield are closed Thursday after student safety became a concern. The Battle Creek Public Schools say Thursday morning that authorities in Springfield let them know there was an active shooter situation in the area of Valley View Elementary and Springfield Middle School; as a result, the district made the call to cancel classes.
The district says roads in the area are closed as well, limiting travel in the Springfield area. Shortly after the BCPS made the call, nearby Endeavor Charter Academy closed down as well for an unspecified reason.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident; details surrounding the investigation remain unclear.
